Halls of Justice: Fighting Waco Rumors

WASHINGTON — FBI officials are frustrated at the water-drop torture of revelations by various supposed experts in the last week who’ve been reviewing the tapes of the tragic confrontation at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco.

One complained they’re between a rock and a hard place; facing congressional inquiries, former Sen. John Danforth’s probe, and a wrongful death lawsuit.

Thus officials are not allowed to counter what they consider misinformation in the press from the alleged experts, some of whom maintain they see gunfire from FBI agents aimed at the compound.

Officials say they’re misreading the tape because they’re missing critical information, information that must remain classified.

Another supposed expert who told the Dallas Morning News that bugging devices clearly gave the FBI advance word that the Branch Davidians were planning to set the compound on fire was dismissed by an FBI official as garbage.

The official said the tapes could only be understood in the aftermath, after they had been enhanced.
